It can feel so hard to search for a therapist when you're already not feeling your best. The credentials are confusing, everyone's online profile sounds the same, and you're not sure what to ask or how it works. Maybe you’ve heard about online therapy platforms out there, but you’re not sure about whether the therapists will be right for you or what they do. Maybe you’ve done therapy before and the idea of starting again feels overwhelming.
As a clinical psychologist (and human being), Dr. Hirschhorn wants it to be easier. She has had years of training and experience in the ingredients for effective therapy. She also believes clients have expertise about themselves, and she wants to know what they know to help them connect with care that is right for them.
So, instead of you spending your precious time/energy Googling “anxiety therapist [insert city here]” and scrolling and cold-emailing, Dr. Hirschhorn wants to learn from you about you, then help with that lift — she does the navigating so that you can get to the real work.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
-
Dr. Hirschhorn will send you forms to review and sign before the complimentary call, including information about therapy navigation, privacy practices, and billing processes. These must be reviewed and signed before the initial call, no exceptions.
If you have questions about the forms, please reach back out so we can assist. If needed, Dr. Hirschhorn is happy to reschedule the call to allow for you to review and sign the required forms.
-
Before your call, think about what your current concerns and goals are, as well as anything that has or hasn’t gone well in the past with therapy. Be sure you are not driving a car (parked car is OK!) or in a place without privacy for the call.
Dr. Hirschhorn will ask you things that will help her to navigate. That might include what you’re looking to work on in therapy, any history of mental health treatment, and parts of your identity you’re willing to share about that may be important to ensure fit. She’ll also ask you about if you’re needing to use a specific insurance, what your availability is like to do sessions, and if you would prefer to do therapy in person and/or via video telehealth.
-
No, this is not a direct mental health care service, and there is no therapy relationship established in the call or the navigation service. This is intended to be helpful, but it’s not therapy.
-
Dr. Hirschhorn keeps your information confidential and writes a documentation note as a record. However, if there is any concern of ongoing abuse, neglect, or exploitation of a child or an adult who can’t care for themselves or make their own decisions, Dr. Hirschhorn is required by law to report those concerns to keep vulnerable people safe. Dr. Hirschhorn is obligated to access emergency services if she is concerned during the call about you imminently harming yourself or another person.
-
No problem! Of course that’s why this can feel overwhelming. She’ll ask you different questions to better understand how you view what’s going on with you, any fears or concerns you might have, and how you learn best.
-
Yes! Whether it’s through accessing her network of great therapists with interstate practice privileges or researching therapists in your area, she can discuss what the ways forward are so that you know what that will entail.
-
Yes! She’ll have some specific questions about your interest and factors that are important before pursuing couples therapy as a good fit.
-
It is totally OK to choose to hold off – you’re in the driver’s seat. Dr. Hirschhorn is still happy to give a couple of wayfinding points for you to get started that she hopes will be helpful.
Getting Started
-
Yes! Many therapists do not directly take insurance and have the flexibility to see any clients in their licensed state, with their own set rates. Depending on your insurance, there may be an opportunity for you to get partially reimbursed for your out-of-network therapy costs to help make care more accessible. Dr. Hirschhorn will ask you about your financial considerations before proceeding with navigation services.
-
Dr. Hirschhorn can be sure to only research therapists who indicate they accept your insurance as she strives to find the best referrals for you. Because there are limits on who might be in network for you, there is not a guarantee that she will find someone with immediate availability. It’s possible it might take longer to find in-network referrals than out-of-network referrals with more flexibility. It’s also your responsibility to fully check that you’re covered for therapy with that provider.
Using Health Insurance
-
Dr. Hirschhorn will give you a brief summary of what she recommends for the best way forward with navigation. She will also give a good faith estimate of time anticipated to generate a summary of referrals. If/when you and she agree to this planned time estimate, she will move forward with the navigation process.
-
Dr. Hirschhorn considers a range of factors:
What you’re aiming to work on
What specific therapy approaches are a best fit for those concerns and how you operate and learn
Where possible, therapist factors that are known to impact therapy outcomes, such as how a therapist establishes and maintains the therapy relationship, monitors how progress is going, and assesses how they’re doing as therapists
How therapists incorporate cultural context and identity in their work
Logistical factors including cost, availability, and preferences on in person vs. video telehealth
-
Dr. Hirschhorn contacts potential good-fit referrals to offer brief information (not including your name or anything identifying about you) and to determine fit and availability. Depending on the need, it is possible that some referrals she may not already be know or be connected with. For other navigation needs, she may be providing referrals whom she is familiar with professionally.
-
No. Dr. Hirschhorn has no financial relationships with any referrals for this service. This helps her to stay focused on what your needs are so those can guide her navigation process.
-
The initial consultation call is complimentary. Billed to the nearest 15-minute increment, therapy navigation services are $240/hour. Services have typically ranged from 45 minutes to 2.5 hours.
-
You will receive a referral summary of 1-3 therapists whom Dr. Hirschhorn believes will be a good fit, along with the rationale for why it’s likely a good fit, their availability fit, and their contact information. As mentioned above, while Dr. Hirschhorn works to find therapists with current availability, it is possible that the therapists will have a wait list with a time estimate.
